Announcement of the 2018 Macha Tulama Association (MTA) Annual members meeting at Catholic University of America, Washington DC, on August 3, 2018 in the afternoon.
July , 2018
The MTA Board of Directors cordially invite all members and former members who did not renew their membership and supporter of the MTA, who will be willing to register to be its members, to attend the crucial August 3, 2018 annual meeting. We cannot stress strongly enough the importance of all members attending the upcoming truly timely meeting that will address several crucial issues, including, but not limited to (1) the possibility for reestablishing the head office of the MTA in Finfinnee, which was illegally closed by the TPLF regime in 2004. Its reestablishment in Finfinnee will be a major landmark in the history of the oldest Oromo civic association in Ethiopia. (2) We are truly excited about our annual meeting, which most likely will be attended by Obbo Dirribi Demissie Bokku, the last President of the MTA, before its office was closed, its activities banned, and its property impounded by the TPLF regime without any due process of law. (3) election of leaders of Board of Directors, (4) election of additional members to the Board of Directors and (5) charting the plan of action for future activities of MTA in North America. We urge all our members and supporters to be part of the history making event on August 3, 2018 from 3-6 p.m. at Catholic University of America in Washington DC.
Since our last annual members meeting on July 27, 2017 our people have been under continuous attack by the TPLF regime and its security forces. For instance, over a million and three hundred thousand Oromo nationals have been deliberately displaced from their homes around the borders of eastern, southeastern and southern Oromia through merciless proxy war conducted by the Tigrean Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) regime’s security forces and the Somali “Liyu (Special) police, trained, financed and heavily-armed by the Ethiopian government. The attack on defenseless civilian population resulted in the death of more than ten thousand Oromo people, plunder of huge resources, and raping of women, young and old – all carried out as part of a forced removal of Oromo nationals from their ancestral lands. Among those displaced, just in the single month of September 2017, almost 150,000 Oromo nationals, including the elderly, women, and children were forcibly removed from their homes in the Somali Regional State. This outrage was committed after confiscation of all their fixed and portable property. The displaced Oromo people live in camps, where they are exposed to hunger and diseases and sometimes attacks by the TPLF security forces.
MTA Board of Directors members believed and continue to believe that no calling is more urgent and noble than providing relief assistance for the displaced Oromo people in eastern, southeastern and southern Oromia regions. With support from our members and Oromo community organization in North America and other individuals, we were able to provide desperately needed assistance for the displaced Oromo people in Harar, Bale, Borana and Wollo areas, thus reducing the daily misery of the displace Oromo people whose lives have been deliberately disrupted by the TPLF regime. With its limited resources, MTA was able to assist more victims of the TPLF regime in the above mentioned four regions of Oromia.
With the reestablishment MTA head office in Finfinnee, with its long-dedicated commitment to the cause of our people, with its legendary founders, who were the symbol of courage and sacrifices that have propelled millions of Oromo into organized motion, with its highly effective networks on the ground in every region of Oromia, with its unpaid volunteers, the MTA guarantees the delivery assistance for displaced Oromo people much faster than we were able to do in the past. It is this aspect which truly excites us with new enthusiasm, that carries us on the wings of hope to the day when the MTA will freely mobilize the human, material and spiritual resources of our masses in Oromia and across the globe for assisting victims of the TPLF regime in every corner of Oromia.
The August 3, 2018 annual members meeting will be a great event that will embody the energy, passion and enthusiasm for reestablishing the MTA head office in Finfinnee, where it deserves to be, to once again serve our people while shining light onto the history of the leaders who became the organizational expression of Oromo national consciousness and through their struggle and sacrifices, winning lasting place in the hearts of our people. Attending the August 3, 2018 Annual MTA members meeting will be psychologically fulfilling and morally uplifting. It will be a unique expression of your commitment to the cause of our people, who have been deliberately displaced by the TPLF security forces.
Finally, once again, we urge all MTA members and our supporters to join us so that we joyously hold our annual meeting on August 3, 2018 at Catholic University in Washington DC. and rekindle spirit of freedom and human dignity that the Macha Tulama Association planted in the heart, mind and soul of the Oromo nation. The specific hall name where we will hold our annual conference will be provided later.
