Did the collusion between Ginbot-7, Dr. Berhanu and PM Abiy Ahmed force Lamma Megersa to flee the country?

By Abba Orma, PhD, July 31, 2019

Lemma Megersa (L) and Teyiba Hassan

Facebook is engulfed by the rumor t/news that Obbo Lamma Megersa has thrown the white towel and left the country for the United States with his wife and children.

What do we know? Here are what we with certainty;

First, it is well known that Obbo Lamma has serious health challenge. He has been traveling back and forth to Germany for treatment.

Second, currently he is in the United States with his wife and children surrounded by friends and supporters for nearly two weeks in a house he owns. If you are concerned about his wellbeing. No worry he is in good hands!

Beyond these, I doubt if he shared his plan with anyone. Why would he? But given the circumstances, it has all the hallmark of someone looking for permanent resettlement outside the country.  He has been waving the white towel for some time now. So, it is expected for the rumor to get some attractions.

To me Lamma Megersa left the ring long ago. Whether he is looking at an alternative is immaterial. Probably the only relevance to Dr. Abiy who is using him as a condom, a shield from the Oromo people. The demotion of Lemma Megersa from the president of Oromia to a clerical position at the Defense Minster and his deputy Teyiba Hassan caught many by surprise then and to this date. His supporter have been pushing him to leave Abiy’s government since then. They might have gotten their wish finally or maybe not. But there has been a revolt from within the OPDO between Team Lamma and the newly assembled Team Abiy. Since their demotion, it has been like a pressure cooker waiting to burst. May be the time has come.

Dr. Abiy Ahmed admires Ginbot-7 (Dr. Birhanu Nega and Andargachew Tsige)

What is not to be forgotten here is the fact that Dr. Abiy is willingly passed on the revolution he and his team hijacked to Dr. Berhanu and Ginbotg-7. Until recently, many have been wondering whether Dr. Berhanu Naga of Ginbot -7 is an opportunist or there is more to this unholy relation between him and PM Abiy Ahmed.  At every important meeting, Dr. Berhanu sits in a front sit normally reserved for close confidants and higher officials. Dr. Berhanu was one of the nominees for the position of foreign minister. He is on the board of Addis Ababa University. In a meeting of professionals held at Addis Ababa University, Dr. Abiy went out of his way to shower Dr. Berhanu with praises and at the same time trashed the rest including Dr. Merera Gudina. In return, Dr. Berhanu dismantled ESAT and promoted those supporting Dr. Abiy’s agenda while dismissing the rest. Dr. Berhanu’s wing is now getting financial backings from Dr. Abiy’s government.

Dr. Berhanu has access to the PM unlike anyone including prominent Oromo political leaders. Dr. Berhanu is a day to day fixture. The PM has the right to surround himself with people he likes. But, the question Oromo people are asking is who propelled Dr. Abiy to the Menelik palace? Is it not our children’s blood?

Dr. Berhanu and Ginbot-7 are the architect of the war on Oromummaa that is endorsed by Dr. Abiy and being under implementation. He is also behind the demotion of Oromos who have shown compassion for their people in ODP including Obbo Lamma and Teyiba. Finally, the puzzle is solved when Ato Andargachew Tsige of Ginbot-7 proudly declared that PM Abiy Ahmed is executing their blueprint, the roadmap designed and given to him by his party.

Sadly, Oromos on both sides of the Oromo political spectrum have lost to Ginbot -7 thanks to OPDO and Dr. Abiy. Both sides are now coming to the conclusion that supporting Dr. Abiy’s administration in its current path is supporting Ginbot-7’s agenda of dismantling Oromia and the federal structure and going back to One Ethiopia, one language and Ginbot-7 flag.

Dr. Berhanu and Amhara elites are using PM Abiy Ahmed’s ambition to be a king of Ethiopia to their advantage. He is beholden to them in order to fulfill his ambition.

Therefore, in mist of all of the crimes and dramas, if Obbo Lamma and Teyiba decide not to throw the white towel and not be used as a shield for the Abiy’s administration from the Oromo people and in search of a peaceful life in the USA, they should be welcomed and applauded by all Minnesotan biking and shown the ropes.

I am ready to greet him as a fellow exile and look forward for a liberator to get us back to Oromia before we die in biyyaa ambaa!

    Well, Dr Abba Orma.

If that is the case, we have to wake up to the Oromo reality that our struggle for justice and freedom is always hijacked just when it approaches the finishing lines. We must remember that the 1974 Ethiopian Revolution, the 1991 failure of the Ethiopian military government, and the recent Oromo protests would have enabled the Oromo people to realize their quest for freedom and justice. Nevertheless, the great Oromo people who are endowed with immense potential have suffered the curse of being outmaneuvered by inferior savage lunatic fringes, partly due to the shortsightedness of our foolish and incompetent politicians. Lack of farsighted leadership which can measure up to the hieght of the just and sacred cause of the great Oromo people.

Dr Berhanu Nega has had only one objective when he has become committed Ethiopian politician, aborting Oromo nationalism. When TPLF imprisoned him, he witnessed that the Ethiopian prisons were full of Oromo political prisoners (speaking affaan Oromo). That reality led him to believing that the Oromo struggle was maturing and it was a matter of time for the great nation to achieve their freedom. Rather than sympathizing with the Oromo politicians languishing in TPLF prisons, he was alarmed that the Oromo were awakening, and becoming politically conscious people. “A danger to the status quo in empire Ethiopia”, he thought. Consequently, he formed Ginbot 7, and started to manipulate the Ethiopian political space, changing his tactics and renaming his party numerous times. Finally, He saw opportunities in Dr Abiy Ahmed, who seem to be indifferent to the quest and yearning of the Oromo people. Bingo!

Dr Abiy has never made it secret that he holds dogmatic belief in the axioms of the “greatness” of past Ethiopian leaders including the extreme repressors, Menilik and Haile Selassie, who committed grave crimes against all “non-Amhara” ethnic groups during their reign. There mustn’t be any illusion that Abiy is the darling son of the anti-Oromo pseudo-Ethiopians who have traded in the name of the country rather than being “ilma Abba Gadaa”, as some shallow and euphoric Oromo intellectuals wish to believe. First, he devalues Orommummaa and Oromo nationalism and lionize past Ethiopian leaders as well as neo-neftagna, who have maintained and pursued policies of destroying the Oromo as a nation. Second, he seems to have adopted passive acceptance of the suffering of the Oromo people as insignificant and normal when compared to his dreams of becoming the next “king” of Ethiopia. Third, he seems to have approved the rights of neo-neftagna lunatic fringes to deny and reject responsibilities and moral burden for their own and their fathers’ crimes, including the genocide committed by Memilik II, the deprivation and dispossessing of the Oromo by Haile Selassie, the so called “Red and White Terror” and the untold crimes committed by TPLF/EPRDF against our people. Fourth, he never attempts to redress past mistakes and aggrieve the historically subjugated and repressed peoples of Ethiopia, including the Agaw, Qimant, Gumuz, Sidama, Somali, Gambella, Affair, Hadiya, Walaiyta, Oromo, etc.

If Lemma has just Woken up to the reality and vacated the Ethiopian political space, that … .

Well, qeerroo and qarree, do you have thick shoulders (like some Oromo individuals who live just for bread), to continue to carry anti-Oromo lunatic fringes, who have degraded the great Oromo people to the level of subhumans in their own country? Do you know that Abiy Ahmed, who was elevated to power on your blood, has not worked hard to earn your full support while he is busy trying to please anti-Oromo camps? Are you turning blind eyes while the objectives for which your comrades have paid ultimate prices are being hijacked, and Ethiopia is heading back to the pre 1974 or pre 1991 status quo? The choice is entirely yours.

The change most of us had celebrated is not heading in the right direction. Or it is not going in any direction; it is more of the same undemocratic and regressive exploitation of the poor. Look at the new land expropriation law. Instead of radically empowering the farmers to democratically decide if a particular expropriation is useful for them, the same DA and degree-buying incompetent crooks are being empowered to give out rural land to brutal speculators who take fertile wheat and teff producing farmland to sell it off for real estate dealers. The difference after so much struggle for the farmers is that they have a longer time between the time when they are to be told to leave their land and the time they will be forced to leave. There is also a small increase in the amount of compensation. But what difference is it going to make whether a farmer is given 100 or 150 if she is uprooted from the land? She cannot thrive in another way of life because the unscrupulous officials put every possible barrier on the way. Farmers must resist in kind of expropriation that is not in their best interest. If a piece of land is to be taken, it must be based on the free consent of the landholder and her fellow village members. If at all she has to be compelled to give up her land, it must be only if her fellow village members tell her to do so on terms that are fair and just for the farmers. Have you ever wondered why there has not been any meaningful public discussion before the law was enacted yesterday? Because the extractive state/party apparatus cannot thrive without sucking the bloody rent from the rural economy. There won’t be progress unless the government stops to suck the life out of the only productive sector of society.

I have a great respect to Oromo ppl but from my experience Oromo are not politically savvy. I have witnessed many impulsuve decisions and thier struggle for indipendence and freefom failed miserably many times. Oromo question always has been for self reliance and indipendence which is noble and commendable but also many of your own elites manipulate your struggle and sold it to others and you fail to hold them accountable but you keep on hitting the wrong bush, case in point TPLF.

This current situation is not different either, if i were you, i will never condemn Birhanu Nega who is an opportunist political business man, Berhanu Nega lived all his life decieving and manipulating, a coward mother fucker. Berhanu and Andargachew tsigie mate Abiy in America, i personally know he became a member of them at same time fooling TPLF and OPDO these idiot of yours as a psychpath hates Oromo cause more than you would imagine but you gave him,a safe heaven to do what ever he wants against your interest.

So do not blame, dergue, tplf or berhanu nega just hold accountable Abiy now and other oromo who betrayed your struggle. Be real and honest.

I wish you the best and know that I am,an ardent organic TPLF and you can take my statement as word of many of us who love and adore TPLF.

I strongly believe that ppl from any corner of Ethiopia do not have any problem, but those who are extremely intoxicated by ethinic worship, poisoning innocent Ethiopians. In my opinion, I don’t have any problem if somebody from X ethinic group becames the Prime Minister or President or any else power, but the main thing is when that empowered prime minister or President or anyelse provide justice, equality and democracy for all ppl of Ethiopia not for selected group like TPLF. You extremist from all corner of Ethiopia (especially from Oromo, Amhara & Tigrayi ethnic groups) are highly demanding to sepress other ppl other than your ethinic group. Believe me this is nightmare for you
