We, Oromo, are all Waraana Bilisummaa Oromoo (WBO)

By Abbaa Ormaa, PhD, August 25, 2018

“We may have all come on different ships, but we are in the same boat now”   (Martin Luther King, Jr.)

Qeerroo is unarmed WBO and WBO is armed Qeerroo!  Fighting one is fighting the other.  If war is an “old fashion”, then it should be an “old fashion” to all sides. Otherwise defending oneself against the aggression of a “terrorist regime” is an obligation and the right of the Oromo nation.

The Oromo people have learned a lot of lessons the hard way in their hundred plus years of oppression, economic exploitation, and cultural domination in the hands of Abyssinian warlords.  These horrors are visited upon them with the help of who the Oromo people referred to as “strange dogs”, the infamous Gobana Dachee, whose history is known to every Oromo.  In the last 28 years, the Oromo people have seen a long list of strange dogs barking and doing the dirty work for their masters, the TPLF against the interests of their own people.  Abadula Gemada is the most prominent political figure on this list and Adisu Arega is the latest to come out of the closet. It is known all along that OPDOs who have Oromo blood on their hands are against the peace agreement between the Oromo Liberation Front and Dr. Abiy’s government.

Strange dogs of today and TPLF are waging war on the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA/WBO) under the cover of disarming to cover up their crimes against the Oromo people and to save their loots for one last time. I am afraid, they will not succeed.

Throughout history, the Abyssinians used lies and strange dogs to break the Oromo people. In 1991-1992, TPLF manipulated and pushed out the OLF from the transitional government and massacred more than 45, 000 Oromos. Half of the victims were camped WBO  After a peace agreement with the Oromo Liberation Front, unsettling development is coming out of West Oromia that the government army is waging war in the name of disarming Oromo Liberation Army (OLA/WBO). Whether this is done with or without the knowledge of Abiy, it is contrary to everything he said he stands for. He must step up and show leadership or allow the minority group undermine his administration and lead the country to a disastrous war. If the war is to continue, it is almost certain that the government will crumble and the empire will disintegrate and many lives will be lost. The motive is clear. OLF has always been in Oromia and will remain in Oromia.

We do not know yet as who is commanding this illegal war and under whose order it is carried out. Whatever it may be, the war is not just against the WBO. It is against the Oromo Nation. This time around, trying to push out OLF means trying to push the entire Oromo nation out of the political discourse. If one is wondering why the Oromo people did not come out to the street to support or denounce Dr. Abiy,  look no further than what is happening the last couple of days in West Oromia and this only adds to the suspicion and make things complicated. The burden is on Dr. Abiy to show that he means what he preaches.

The WBO is in the hearts and minds of every Oromo. They are the prides of the Oromo Nation. They are the best and bravest among us. The Oromo people know their faces and their stories. These are kids from their neighbors, kids from their families, and kids from their community. They come from all religion and region. They are 18 years, 19 years, and 25 years old Oromo kids who were expelled from their colleges, schools, and saw their parents displaced from their ancestral land by the occupying mercenaries and picked up weapons to fight for their rights and the rights of their people. They come from all corners of Oromia and they are in all corners of Oromia.  Fighting OLA means fighting the entire Oromo and they cannot be a bystander.

It is possible that this is the work of those who wants to create chaos to undermine the Abiy government to make their point and claim that they and only they can govern. The Abiy administration needs to take immediate steps to stop this unwise and destructive war if peace is to prevail or risk complete chaos. If the peace deal between the Oromo Liberation Front and the Abiy government is to fail, Ethiopia will be engulfed by a civil war that would result in the disintegration of the empire. If the center, Oromia, cannot hold, Ethiopia cannot hold.

It will be irresponsible to think for anyone that the Oromo Liberation Front will submit to disarm its peacekeepers knowing what happened under a similar hypothesis in 1991-1992.

By waging war on a peaceful army of the Oromo people, the government of Dr. Abiy is declaring unrest and war without end on the Oromo people. One would wonder why “old fashion” is acceptable for them and not those who choose to defend themselves.

Qeerroo and the Oromo people must rise up in unison and show the world their unwavering support for the Oromo Liberation Front and the WBO. If this war is to continue, then it is upon the Oromo people to block roads to hinder enemy movements, to refuse services to enemy invaders, and to identify their Oromo collaborators and put them on notice to choose between their Oromo brothers and sisters and the enemy of their people. Let the TPLF fight its war of choice.

Oromia Shall be Free!

Yes, we must continue to stand together and defend out country and ourselves. I am very suspicions of the fact that still EPRDF is in charge.
