Adooleessa 16, 2019

Meskel Square on 15th of September 2018, welcoming ceremony of the OLF leadership. Irreecha (Oromo Thanksgiving) 2019 is expected to be held here, but furiously opposed by the Amhara groups as a demonstration of ownership over Finfinne (Addis Ababa).

    Dear Berhanu Hundee,

Greetings to you. You always stand out by relentlessly shedding some light on Oromo affairs. Galatomi! I completely agree with you that the Oromo are to blame for failing to put the inferior neftagna and neo-neftagna in their places. It hurts when the superior is pushed around by the inferior due to the lack of awareness about own strength. By the way, it may be wrong to praise the Oromo for being unnecessarily layback and failing to assert themselves. Oromo patience with the neo-neftagna is not only mind boggling, but also equates to an unforgivable mistake emanating from political naivety. If the great Oromo people understood the immense potential they possess, in every aspects, including resources and human capital, and played to their strengths, maintaining their unity, they wouldn’t be subjugated by inferior people, in the first instance. The fact of the matter is that other people, particularly, the backward neo-neftagna lunatic fringes do not understand how their hosts feel; they only react to actions. That means that the Oromo must act in unison in asserting themselves and putting the savage and extremely backward neo-neftagna in their deserved places. The anti-Oromo lunatic fringes, who wrap themselves in imported modern clothing, however, are buried in their ancestors’ 18th and 19th century thinking mode only understand when they are put in their places. They must be told in clear terms that the Oromo have inalienable rights to achieve their freedom and live peaceful and prosperous lives in their ancestral land, Oromia, including Finfinne. This includes abbabiyyumma, political freedom, control of their resources, economic progress, cultural advancement, holistic wellbeing, etc.

Some Oromo individuals, particularly, those who lost their self-esteem and self-believe might also be liabilities to the great Oromo people’s quest for their inalienable freedom. Oromo unwarranted patience and indifferences of some galtuu Oromo individuals to the Oromo cause has been as problematic as the neo-neftagna mindset. Some decades back, while I was studying, a well to do Oromo acquaintance of mine invited me for a dinner and I was at their residence in Finfinne, dining with the family from the fine foods prepared by well trained maids. Once the dinner was over and other members of the family went their own ways, my acquaintance and I started to chat over a fine drink. My acquaintance boasted that it took him 40 years to build that kind of luxurious life, holding high positions in both Haile Silassie and Mengistu Haile-Mariam’s régimes. I was told that he kept himself out of Oromo politics and focused on his personal gains, and survived victimization while his contemporaries perished in the hands of Abyssinian savages. I did not see any sympathy, in his thoughts, with the Oromo sufferings throughout the conversation. It was not difficult to infer, from the conversation, that as an Oromo he wouldn’t have survived and amass wealth from leftovers his masters robbed from our people without selling out Oromo cause and taking part in the destruction of the Oromo as a nation. I was truly disgusted and was struggling to keep down the foods I ate from the table of that person. Do not get me wrong; I am pro Oromo wealth creating, and have great respect for Oromo individuals who go beyond mediocrity in their respective areas. My ancestors owned a country which was part of great Oromia, and everyone in my family has been aspiring for self-sufficiency while keeping eyes on the big objectives, Oromo aspirations. Obviously, since all the Oromo people are not expected to be active politicians, it is normal to have people who may not directly involve in politics. However, Oromo individuals who serve our enemies, enabling them to subjugate us and rob our resources are worse than our known enemies. As much as we struggle with the neo-neftagna lunatic fringes, we must also keep eyes on naive galtuu Oromo individuals. Qeerroo and qarree must not look up to galtuu Oromo individuals, who live for “buddeenna” as role models.

The Oromo people in general and qarree and qeerroo in particular must boldly assert themselves, and make it clear to enemies as well as friends that Oromo ownership to Finfinne/Addis Ababa is our ancestral right. That is, the Oromo being indigenous to Finfinne have absolute rights over the domain/area including the resources on their ancestral lands. No neo-neftagna screams or deceptions can fallacy this fact. Oromo, hear me out; understand your immense potential and overall strength; beware of Abyssinian deceptions and your own galtuu individuals who live for only one and one reason, to gain from selling out Oromo just causes and fill their bellies. We can never shy away from speaking to the truth. Oromo fools who compromise Oromo cause must be disciplined. The sky is NOT the limit for what the Oromo can achieve if they maintain their unity, and work hard to assert themselves and ascertain their freedom.

Qeerroo and Qarree: Remember that you are Abbaabiyyaa; you have ancestral right to Finfinne while the neo-neftagna lunatic fringes are illegitimate occupiers who are daring to dictate what you can and cannot do with Finfinne. Got the irony? I better stop here since Berhanu Hundee has promised us to write more and share his insights with us.

    Truth and justice prevail!

Thanks a lot, Berhanu Hundee, for your encouragement. I would have loved to write articles and make small contributions to the struggle of our people. However, due to time constraints and distance, I would be unable to support articles with well researched facts at the moment. That means that, I will have to differ taking the plunge for a short while, and will hopefully join the writing circle in the near future. Your dedication to writing on important matters pertinent to the great Oromo people is much appreciated. You and fellow Oromo contributors/writers are not only documenting Oromo ups and downs in their quest for freedom, but also are keeping our hopes high. I strongly believe that it would be a good idea if bright qeerroo and qarree, especially, academicians are encouraged to follow in your example, and start to write quality articles in their areas of expertise, in any language that they are more confident in. It will also be important if pro Oromo media emphasize on the immense potential of the Oromo people and their greatness, and alert them to their own strengths in order to inspire them to overcome self-doubts and go beyond any limits.

Thanks a lot once again; keep writing!
