Dr. Arega Negero, Prominent Member of OSA and OCO Passed Away

AregaDr. Arega Negero, one of the previous leaders & founders of the Oromo Community Organization (OCO) of Washington DC passed away on Friday, October 11, 2018. Dr. Arega was a strong advocate of the Oromo cause, and served in different capacities in the leadership of the Oromo Community including as a board member from 1992-1995 and 1998- 2004. When the community was at its infancy, Dr. Arega made his work facilities available for most of the Oromo related activities including annual meetings of the Oromo Studies Association (OSA). He was one of the key individuals who was pivotal in taking the initiative of buying the Oromo Community Center in Washington, DC and contributed to the Oromo housing fund generously. Dr. Arega was member of the OSA and contributed to the development of the association and building Oromumaa.

Dr. Arega passed away after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife and two children.  His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of the members of the Oromo Community and everyone he interacted with including those he reached but never met.

On behalf of all Oromo in the Washington Metropolitan area, the OCO would like to express its deepest condolence to the family and friends of the late Dr. Arega Negero.
