The Human Rights League of the Horn of Africa (HRLHA) Announcement

September 10, 2018

blankThe Human Rights League of the Horn of Africa (HRLHA) has been reporting the human right situation in Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa from abroad since its establishment in 2007. During this time it as done so against all adversities using clandestine means to collect and validate information in the  field of human rights. With its limited capacity, it has consistently discharged its role of being “the voice for the voiceless” at national and international forums. The need for independent monitoring of the human right situation in Ethiopia continues to be vital for the establishment and sustainment of democratic and fair governance in that country.

We recognize the recent political developments in Ethiopia, that seems to present an opportunity for a various organization to operate peacefully within the country. For human organizations like the Human Rights League of the Horn of Africa (HRLHA), it would potentially mean that timely and accurate collection and dissemination of on-the-ground information would be significantly enhanced. In addition, the opportunity to raise awareness about human rights broadly would be elevated.

After a thorough consideration, the Board of Directors of the Human Rights League of Horn of Africa has decided the HRLHA to establish its presence in Ethiopia/Oromia in order to advance its human right advocacy role. Accordingly, HRLHA will send its representative to Oromia in the upcoming month, October 4, 2018.

We would like to thank all our supporters and sister organization for sharing our values and standing with us. As we start a new chapter on our journey, we count on all caring citizens and institutions to commit to protecting human rights at all times and support HRLHA.
