RE: Appreciation for Expression of Your Consent to Participate in the Investigation into Atrocities in Tigray Region of Ethiopia Yet Urging Your Good Office to Extend its Scope of Investigation into Gross Violations of Human Rights in Oromia and Benishangu-Gumuz Region

Dear Excellency,

HRLHA would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to your office’s expression of consent to Ethiopia’s request for joint investigation into human rights atrocities unfolding in the Tigray Region. At the first place, HRLHA would like to commend an initiative taken by Ethiopian government in inviting your office to take part in investigation process of the alleged human rights atrocity in Tigray Region. This is good news for millions of civilians still in a threatening situation in the region. It would also be a respite for thousands of victims of gruesome human rights abuses committed in course of the conflict. HRLHA appreciates a due attention that you have been giving to the egregious human rights situation in Tigray Region from the outset of the war.

It is of HRLHA’s belief that the worst human rights situation currently unfolding in the Tigray Region is the manifestation of the underreported wide scale gross violations of human rights that have been ongoing throughout the country especially in the Western and Southern parts of Oromia and Benishangu-Gumuz Regions. International as well as some local human rights organizations including HRLHA have been repeatedly calling upon the UN to intervene and stop the crises in Tigray Region in particular and other parts of the country in general which as it
