By ANF, October 13, 2019

Opinion on working language and/or federal working language in Ethiopia for every qualified jobs including employment at government, non-government, private companies and so forth

  1. Oromia Regional State
    • Federal employment: Afaan Oromo and English essentials, every more language is asset
    • Regional employment: Afaan Oromo essential, English is the next asset, every more language is asset
  2. Amhara Regional State
    • Federal employment: Amharic and English essentials, every more language is asset
    • Regional employment: Amharic essential, English is the next asset, every more language is asset
  3. Tigray Regional State
    • Federal employment: Tigrinya and English essentials, every more language is asset
    • Regional employment: Tigrinya essential, English is the next asset, every more language is asset
  4. Somalia Regional State
    • Federal employment: Somali and English essentials, every more language is assets
    • Regional employment: Somali essential, English is the next asset, every more language is assets
  5. Other regional States
    • Federal employment: English essential, specific regional language is asset, every other more language is asset
    • Regional employment: specific regional language essential, every more language is asset

It is better applicable to all cities, towns and rural areas located in the specific region. If possible, in addition to the Amharic language, it is good to consider Afaan Oromo for federal working language for now. That helps for lessons and, then adds Tigrinya and Somali later step by step.

Flexibility at an appointment stage for “essentials”, an imperative or non-imperative basis would be determined.
